Jennifer Reid is an experienced private tutor based in York, offering personalised English as a Foreign Language (EFL) tuition to children and adults, both in person and online. With experience teaching English in the UK and abroad, I provide supportive and practical lessons tailored to each learner's level, goals and individual needs.
Lessons can help learners develop their everyday English, improve their confidence communicating in English, prepare for study or work in England, or work towards the Life in the UK Test.
Build confidence in communicating in English, providing opportunities to practise speaking and listening in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Develop stronger language skills through personalised support, helping learners improve their vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, reading and writing at a pace that suits them.
Prepare for the Life in the UK Test, with focused support to develop the English language skills and knowledge needed to approach the test with greater confidence.
Support learners as they settle into life in England, developing the practical English needed for everyday life, including navigating services, communicating with others and feeling more confident in a new environment.
Support study and work in England, helping learners develop the language skills needed to communicate effectively in educational and professional settings, from understanding instructions and participating in discussions to writing and presenting ideas clearly.
Make learning English engaging and meaningful, using relevant topics and activities to help learners use English naturally and develop greater independence and confidence.
Each session is tailored to the learner’s age, English level, individual needs and personal goals, ensuring that lessons are appropriately challenging while remaining supportive and enjoyable.
We begin with a short warm-up activity, revisiting language from previous lessons and building confidence. We then focus on the learner’s current area of development, introducing new vocabulary, grammar or language skills in a clear and accessible way.
Learners are encouraged to use English through guided activities and conversation, gradually moving towards more independent communication. This provides regular opportunities to practise speaking, listening, reading and writing in meaningful contexts.
Throughout the session, we check understanding, celebrate progress and provide supportive feedback, helping learners recognise their strengths, develop greater confidence and identify the next steps in their English language development.
